Poker

on the internet

Bridge isn't the only game I enjoy. I also make a modest side income playing low-stakes poker online. My first and still favourite site is UltimateBet. For a little more variety, I also try my hand at Chinese Poker and Panguingue, in addition to hold'em, at Tiger Gaming. My bookstore carries a rapidly explanding range of poker books as well as bridge books.

In my spare time I've also conducted some mathematical investigations into poker theory. (Best part of being a statistician is getting to play around with this sort of thing and still call it work!) I am a frequent contributor to the Probability and Poker Theory forums at 2+2 Publishing's website. As time permits I'll write up some of my more interesting results and post them on my poker articles page .

I also visit brick and mortar card rooms as the opportunity arises when I travel to bridge tournaments, and I have compiled my experiences on a review page to help you decide where to play.

Are you thinking of trying out poker on the internet? Sign up for a new account at any of the sites below! As a thank-you for joining through my website, you will be entitled to a 20% discount on each and every book order you place through me for as long as you remain an active player at at least one of the below poker sites! YES, this applies to ALL books in print including special orders, not just my current stock and not just poker books. (You can still use the PayPal ordering buttons on my online bookstore ... just make sure to include your username and the site you play at and ask for your 20% off in the "special instructions" field when you check out, or send me an email.)

This discount program is available through any of the online cardrooms listed below. If there's a particular site you'd like to play at that isn't listed here, write me and ask what I can do for you.

Great poker links:

Low Limit Holdem
A nice introduction to strategy and tactics; good variety of articles if you're just starting out.
The Two Plus Two Forums
The best bulletin board for serious poker discussion on the internet. Two Plus Two is a leading publisher of poker books too, and has reviews and excerpts of many books on their site -- of course, it costs you 20% less if you buy the book from me than from them directly!
rec.gambling.poker
The Usenet group for poker discussions... less highbrow and more freewheeling than the 2+2 Forums.
Brian Alspach's Math and Poker Page
If you're into heavy-duty calculations of obscure odds, you'll enjoy Brian's articles. (If not, your eyes will glaze over...)
The Wizard of Odds
Man, I wish I had thought of doing this ten years ago. Great site covering all of the popular casino games, showing how the house edge is calculated and what the least expensive strategies to play are. A little bit of information about poker, too.
